The Immortal Empire #1 -3 by Kate Locke

I read The Immortal Empire series by Kate Locke a while ago.

God Save the Queen – #1
The Queen is Dead – #2
Long Live the Queen – #3

An alternate history, where an immortal Queen Victoria still rules and the  Aristocracy is made up of werewolves and vampires. Goblins – terrifying creatures that seem to be a mix of vampires and werewolves – live underground. There is an uneasy balance between the undead Aristocrats, those of mixed parentage (aristo + human = “havies”) and regular humans. Continue reading

Dearest (Woodcutter Sisters #3) – Alethea Kontis

Dearest
Following Enchanted and Hero, this third installment of the Woodcutter sisters books is about Friday (the sweet, good, selfless and caring seamstress). Borrowing from fairy tales such as “The Wild Swans”, “The Goose Girl”, and “Peter Pan” this is a delightful mix of stories that allow Friday to shine. Continue reading

Liar’s Moon (Thief Errant, #2)

Liar's Moon

Okay… I am seriously behind on reviews.  I have been doing reading – a fair bit of it! – but I have been absolutely TERRIBLE at posting reviews.  So I’m going to attempt to catch up, but my next few posts are going to be very short.  It has been SO LONG since I read some of these books that I don’t recall more than general impressions, plus writing shorter posts will hopefully mean that I get more done!

So, Liar’s Moon by Elizabeth C. Bunce is one of those books I read ages ago, right after I read the first one, Star Crossed (review here).

Digger is back in the city, after witnessing the start of a civil war. Continue reading

Star Crossed (Thief Errant #1) by Elizabeth C. Bunce

Star Crossed

I’m still playing catch-up for books that I read a while ago! I’d been meaning to read Star Crossed for a while – another book that I was prompted to read by the cover / title. I’m glad I did!

In the city of Gerse, where all magic is banned, Digger is a thief and spy-for-hire. When her partner, Tegen, is killed by the Greenmen who police the city, Digger knows she must escape the city quickly. Disguising herself among a group of merry nobles, Digger finds herself swept up by their group. Becoming a lady’s maid, Digger accompanies her new mistress, Merista Nemair, to the Nemair family stronghold. Blackmailed into spying on the family, Digger is caught between loyalty and survival. Things out in the country are not so peaceful as they might seem. Rebellion is brewing, and Digger seems right in the middle of it. Continue reading

A Creature of Moonlight by Rebecca Hahn

A Creature of Moonlight

A Creature of Moonlight by Rebecca Hahn was a book I picked up a while ago based on the cover. (Yes, I am often influenced by covers, much to my chagrin).

The woods come and go, but of late they have been coming more than going. Girls on the cusp of womanhood tend to disappear in the woods. Only Marni has secretly entered the woods and returned again.

Marni has grown up apart from the court but not a commoner.  Living in exile at the edge of the woods, Marni is the heir to the throne but her existence hinges on the battle of wills between her Grandfather and her Uncle. Things are changing, and Marni is growing up. The magical woods are creeping onward, swallowing the countryside in search of this half-human, half-dragon girl. Marni is faced with a choice of what she will become, and what birthright she will claim.

The Rangers Apprentice Books 4 – 12 by John Flanagan

OKAY, I admit defeat.  I can barely find time to make it to the computer let alone to post about what I’ve read, so I’m going to do a mass post on the rest of the Ranger’s Apprentice Series.   I loved them ALL and I can’t wait to share this series with my son when he gets old enough!  The characters just get better and better, and the stories remain interesting and fresh. Love love love!

Instead of reviewing them all, I’m going to list the rest of the series with brief comments!  You can see my posts on Books #1, #2, and #3 here, here and here respectively!

So here we go… Continue reading
