About

Welcome!

I decided to start a blog to share my love of books!  Specifically, I thrill in young adult fiction.  I do love some adult fiction, some mystery, some fantasy, and some romance as well, but a significant fraction of my collection is indeed written for young adult readers. You may ask why someone on the wrong side of 25 (but as yet shy of 30!) reads young adult fiction.  I have several reasons.

First, I love happy endings.  I’m one of those strange creatures whose heart gets swept away quite easily by the written word.  I find it’s easier to find the happy endings I crave in works written for younger audiences.  I also find many purely romance novels silly (a contradiction, I know!).  I like light-hearted easy reads that take me away from the hum-drum of real life.  I used to read to escape.  I quite like my life and I don’t feel as compelled to read for reasons of escape anymore, but I still maintain that if I am reading for pleasure then it should be FUN.

Second, so many of my favourite authors write so-called “teen fiction” and I can’t bear to part with them.

Besides, I think reading “kids books” is much more acceptable since books like Harry Potter and even The Hunger Games came out.  And they can be so much more fun than books targeted at adults!

Third, I find that I’m a bit of a chicken.  I like to predict what’s going to happen – something that is easier in books written for a younger audience.  It helps me prepare my heart against sorrows that I might find in the text.

Fourth, I like quick reads that I can get done in an afternoon.

I’ve decided to try to ONLY post on books that I have read (or re-read) recently.  I’m big on re-reading books so I’m hoping that eventually I’ll write about all my favourites!

Anyhow, I will readily admit to having an eccentric and eclectic taste in books and I’m hoping that by starting this blog I can find others who share my peculiar tastes.  I aim to review any book that strikes my fancy, across the lifespan.   I invite you to share your favourites with me as well!

UPDATE –  January 2, 2016

I’d still love to share my love of reading, but LIFE keeps getting in the way of a regular posting schedule! My sincerest apologies! I’m going to try hard to post when I can, and I may add reviews for Baby/Toddler books here and there. Having an energetic little bookworm means that I get lots of board-book reading time in!

Thanks for sticking with me!!

  2. I definitely don’t think there is anything wrong with reading YA when you are older than the intended demographic. People should read what they love to read, no matter what society says, no one should ever make you feel bad about doing something you love. 🙂 I’m so glad that it is becoming more socially acceptable now.

    Happy reading!

  3. But there is nothing like a good Twain book, you know…

I’m not really a fan of Twain myself… Perhaps if I gave him another try I would appreciate it more as an adult.

  4. Hi,
I was wondering if you would be interested in reviewing my newly released book: The Demon Rolmar. It’s a YA sci-fi/fantasy novella. You can learn more about on my blog: avgriffin.wordpress.com.
