The Icebound Land (The Ranger’s Apprentice Book #3)

Continuing on with the Ranger’s Apprentice series by John Flanagan…

Book 3: The Icebound Land

Will and Evanlyn are captives, bound for Skandia to be sold as slaves by Erak, the captain of the fierce wolfship they find themselves on. The journey wont be easy, and once arriving in Skandia the danger only increases.

Meanwhile, Halt has sworn to rescue Will and is willing to defy even his King to keep that promise. Halt is joined by Horace as he sets out for Skandia.  Along the way, Horace proves time and again that he’s a natural fighter.  Building a reputation may be a great thing for the young knight-in-training, but it also may provide challengers.

Brief thoughts:

  • Loved the interaction between Horace and Halt in this one!
  • SUPER interesting development – Will becomes hopelessly addicted to a drug called warmweed which totally takes him out of commission and leaves you wondering how he will ever survive Skandia.
  • I am loving the references to Skandia – who are clearly modeled off of vikings, horned helmets and all. (Yes I know that vikings didn’t actually wear horned helmets, but in these books they do! Yay fiction!)
  • Evanlyn still kicks butt – love her strength!
